I just bought a netbook and it comes with Windows 7. I used to have windows vista, so now I’m so confused. I just want to change my desktop background and can’t figure out how, also how can i change the settings so when i close my laptop it doesnt shut off, just goes to sleep. Also any other advice for windows 7 I would really appreciate it! Th

In my house, there is an office that is filled with papers and dead laptops and art supplies. I don’t usually go in there but when i do i forget to turn off the lights when i leave. You might say, Hey. No big deal right? But my mom totally flips out. I get this long talk about lights just for forgetting once. I hate it! My mom says i have to think, but what about! I want to scream at her that it she were in my shoes and i were in hers i wouldn’t be yelling and she would be totally stumped on how to remember the lights. So now i need a way to remember to turn off the lights every time i go to the office. Please don’t say to make a sign that says turn off lights because that just wont work in this case. Please help and thanks in advance.

ok before i can just spit out the question i gotta tell the whole story….ok so i bought my first alienware laptop from a pawn shop called pyramid pawn (never buy electronics form them ever!!!! take my word for it) i know it was really idiotic but as soon as my eyes saw that there was an alienware laptop for sale i had to get it. 875 is what i paid. now when i get back to my place to give it a go. As it turns out they stripped it of all its good parts and added generic stuff (i can only assume cause its the only logical explanation i can come up with) its an alienware area 51 m9750. idk for sure cause idk how to rip apart a laptop nor do i want to risk a static disruption and damage everything. so i take it to mybuddy to try to figure out whats wrong and he has no idea. apparently the drivers are all screwed up and the disc drive isnt reading much of anything (it will sometimes run C&C 3 if i eject it and reinsert the disc for what seems 10 min. straight) we tried to do something that was said to do for my cd drive that was online it said to delete two files from my regedit and then uninstall the drive then reset and allow the plug and play to reinstall it. might not have been a problem except the fact that the two files i was told to delete were non existance. still uninstalled it and nothing really happened except it was reinstalled. thus there is also a problem eith the fact that its operating system is vista and most of the stuff is incompatible with it. soo instead of first trying to save this computer i was lookin to buy a new laptop. long story short i dont have the money for that. sooo i need to figure out how to fix my laptop and also if possible upgrade the parts with a better processer and video card and whatever all else i need to make a good gaming computer. im trying to find repair services that specialize in alienware laptops and dont charge outragious prices or if possible something i can do at home to help my progress with fixing this god forsaken problem. any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

I just got my new Laptop (A MAC) around Christmas time. I’m really sad because I used to love IMVU, and I have alot of friends on there that I can’t keep in contact with. They’ve been saying they’re making imvu for a mac but i dont see it yet.

Ok so! Where to start.. I’m in a school program where laptops are issued to every student. My question is about connecting to the game server of MMO’s (namely Allods) I tried connecting to other games and Runescape worked, Maplestory wouldnt connect to the news server, but I could still hit the play button and play the game fine (but whenever a patch came out I have to re-install the entire game because it wouldnt patch, idk why xD) Allods has to connect to version check and patch (because I did it on home computer), but I get this: “The connection to the game server failed, error code 2.3″ I can see why on school campus why I can’t play online games, but why am I not allowed at home? I’m no good with computers so I have no clue. Firewall is on group policy, however, I have Allods Launcher and Pando Media Booster on list of exceptions not controlled by group policy. I have Sophos anti-virus on this computer, but I don’t think its blocking anything, how do I tell? There is also this thing called VNC Server on here, which I have no clue about either! Anyway! That is all I can come up with, please tell me if you want me to add any specifications of this computer to this post! Hope I said everything that needed to be said! So, any ideas, that might not get me in trouble with administration? and if not, even ideas that can get me in trouble? =D! Many Thanks!

I run The Sims 3 and the High End Loft stuffs package on my MAC laptop. The games run beautifully on my computer, but whenever I install custom content, the game slows down a considerable amount. A neighborhood that originally takes less than two minutes to load suddenly takes at least a half hour. I know that I can just remove the content, but then again, its a big reason why I play in the first place. I only have a few things installed.. Could there be corrupt files? Is anyone else having problem with the CC and is there a way to either ease or completely fix these problems? Thanks in advance for any input.

I use a laptop cooler all the time which is running thru a USB port. The thing is the fans are plugged in all the time and I never usually turn my laptop off. Would this damage the USB as the fans are constantly drawing power out of them? thanks for your help.

I just recently discovered how cool skype is (especially since it is free), so i got a webcam, a microsoft life cam vx-5500. When I see myself I look very clear and not laggy, but when i am video skyping with someone, their video quality is horrible. they are pretty much frozen the whole time, and i know it is not their camera because it is a brand new laptop. we are both connected to the internet and she says my video shows up fine on her end but i dont know why the video connection of her is so laggy and frozen? i have a good camera, i am fully connected to the internet, what could be the problem?

I have a Netgear wgr614v7 and i want to play online games on laptop. But when i open try to open the ports on the router it doesn’t work. But if i connect to a different wireless connection the online game works fine. Any help?

I was playing League of Legends this morning and it was playing fine. Then I had an insane FPS drop. I tried reinstalling the game & restarting my PC. It does nothing. I logged on my girlfriends WOW account and I’m also having insane FPS issues on that. On League of Legends I normally ran 59-60 FPS on a constant basis with no real drops at all. I imagine World of Warcraft was the same as she’s played a few times on my laptop and has had zero complaints. What could be causing this? I think I noticed it when I alt-tabbed in the middle of a game on LoL but other than that, nothing has really changed. I ran a program to check GPU temps or something like that and I was sitting at like 35C.

I had a “fake alert” virus on my laptop..rogue programs? but mcafee caught it..this was like 3 days ago and now this fake alert virus popped up again & mcafee blocked it…how and why is this happening? I visit the same sites all the time, Is there still some sort of spyware on my LP? If I lockdown my firewall will that stop the viruses? thank you I mean…if I lockdown my firewall everytime I leave my laptop will that stop viruses?? And also, im using a private wireless connection..(comcast/belkin)..and the router is connected to my brothers computer and he has viruses!

Just bought an imac for my dad, it’s a 24 in screen i believe, when you view websites, alot of them like yahoo answers, is small and has a very large blue (or other color) border to both sides. Sites are too small for my dad to see and be able to read. Is there a easy way to make all sites appear full screen without these borders so he can read it? I can make the text look big but then the text overlaps other text or other photos. i just want to make websites look full screen like they do on my smaller 15 inch and my other 17 inch laptops

I had downloaded itunes on my laptop and I had to take it back to the store to get something fixed and they wiped my hard drive. I had already synced my ipod to that itunes so now that I have downloaded itunes again (it was deleted when they wiped my hard drive) it won’t let me sync my ipod because its synced to the other one which I can’t even get into. It says that it would delete my songs and stuff and this is all REALLY frustrating. Can anyone PLEASE help me?

Dragonica has been messing up for me even though i downloaded all the updates and even got everything for the game but when i choose the channel to play in and the i press play dragonica online it shuts my laptop off and this blue screen appears saying that a problem has occured and that i should download updates and it also says that their might not b enough space but i made a lot of space and it says beginning dump of physical memory can someone help me so that i can play dragonica.

I’ve had a lot of issues with all of the PCs I have had, from Dell to HP, they’re never reliable and slow. I’m going to college this fall and I want a computer that I can trust. I have heard a lot of good things about Macs and reliability. I’m majoring in Anthropology, so I’m not going to be one of the movie making, music mixing users, I just want a laptop that I can rely on. What pros and cons do Macs have? Ello, I just got a Line 6 KB37 Keyboard. Thus far it’s pretty cool, but I’m pretty disappointed with the small selection of sound for the synth. Are there any websites from which I can download (preferably free) sounds for my synth? The synth plugs into my laptop and thus all of the sounds for it are stored on my laptop. I read in the specifications that it will support nearly any computer-based synth software, so if you know of any such software, please share. Thank you

i aks because im having some truble after getting off th schools dell computers, and after reading abook for over 10 mins. But oddly my eyes neve fog up after i use my HP laptop. But after school i have issues when my eyes fog up and i can see but not that clearly. any ideas of what this could be?

OK. HP Touchsmart desktop running Vista, half year old, no excess programs etc, no Canon printers loaded (use Epson TX700W) and when typing mails in Yahoo letters are slow to appear or don’t appear at all. Only Yahoo is affected, all others work fine (Office etc). Have same age Sony laptop with Vista, and no issues with typing in Yahoo. Anyone have a clue?

Being somewhat naive with laptops I seek the opinions of you re the suitability of this laptop for occasional use.

I took the USB out of my laptop while it was starting up, and now a REALLY important file is “backed up”. You see I’m a writer, and my book (REALLY important file) is now like fifty pages shorter. It’s a Kingston 2GB Flash Drive. The information is absolutely no where else.

My parents just bought me another laptop last semester, and up until last month, it had a free Norton Security program on it. It has expired, and I do not want to renew the subscription. I had SPYSWEEPER on my other laptop, and to my knowledge, the computer never acquired any viruses and doesn’t have any now. I don’t have money to go out and buy that program right now. Somebody told me that AVG is free to download and its anti-virus protection. Is this true? I am in college, and the people in my IT department says it is nice to have. But I’m not sure…it was downloaded on my friend’s computer after they fixed a virus, but then he got one again, even with the AVG. Does it work? Should I download it? Is it safe or is it a scam?? Thank you for your responses. And if it is safe, could someone provide the correct websites so that I don’t go downloading the wrong thing?

I have COMODO firewall, and since last night the programs ielowutil.exe, msfeedssync.exe, and when I tried to open it just now Windows Media Player, have been frequently trying to obtain shutdown privilege. Comodo has caught it each time, but it has never happened before and /certainly/ does not seem like something that should be happening at random. This seems to be coinciding with problems I’ve been having connecting to the internet–Sunday it would not connect at all and would give a loud, odd tone as it tried to connect (I have dial-up) while yesterday it worked. To-day again I had problems connecting but eventually it /did/ connect. I have a Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop running Windows Vista. Monday night I installed IObit Security 360 and it found more than one Rogue.Errorfix and an Adware.MWS. I do not know what those are but I had it remove them. My other security programs are AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Comodo Firewall, Spybot Search and Destroy, a daily sweep using IObit’s Advance SystemCare, and an occasional scan by TrendMicro Housecall. AVG seems to only be good for cookie-finding. MSSE has found and blocked a trojan but has done nothing else. I’m not sure but I can try to provide additional information if it’s needed.

Whenever i download google earth on my PC, (Dell laptop) it always makes it run slow, it messes the computer up so i have to end up resetting my computer. Except i really love google earth! Im stuck . lol (:

i am installing windows xp from scratch on my other laptop and when i choose to boot from disc, i get a blue screen that says UNMOUNTABLE_ BOOT_DRIVE and under that theres a bunch of stuff and at the very bottom is says ***STOP: [hammer time] 0×000000ED (0×81FA8900, 0xC0000185, 0×00000000, 0×00000000) i also had a bunch of problems with formatting the partions or something like that but then this came up before i even got to that What can I do?

I work at a company where everyone is quite mobile and busy. We have laptops and mobile phones to get work done. Because of our almost round-the-clock schedule, our office hours are usually pretty flexible. I have a new manager from outside the company and he pulled me aside to chastise me on when I come in. He then mandated I come in a couple hours earlier and said that this was only for me… Singling me out made me uncomfortable but I said okay and followed his mandate. Two months later, I was pulled into another project and working with another manager (temporarily) who is familiar with and likes my work. It got back to me that my manager told him I had “timing issues” and to report back findings along with feedback with my work. (Feedback was great and he had no issues with my timing) I feel that it’s an issue if I wasn’t following after you told me to come in at a certain time. Should I approach my manager about the image he’s setting? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Ok so im using my slow laptop because my new one broke or something. Yesterday, i was on facebook, then i went to take out the trash. When i came back the screen froze so i turned the computer off through the power button. And when i turn it back on, the lights flash on but the screen dosent light up and it just automatically shuts down. Then on its own, starts up with no screen then shuts down again. The duration of it turning from on to off is about 2 seconds. What could this be? My laptop that broke was an HP Dv9000 and its only 2 years old!

It’s an ASUS Notebook U50F. It’s new, only had it for a few weeks. It runs perfectly, but almost every time I type more than a few words, the computer goes into some kind of sleep mode. the screen goes completely black. to turn it back on, I just push the power button and it opens to the first user menu. I click Owner, and it opens up immediately to whatever I was doing before. It’s happened several times just typing this! Someone help me!

Okay I have Gateway M-Series and I used to get wireless internet access until this Sat. I called and they help me with my main pc but my laptop doesn’t work it say the network is unidentified and that I have excellent signal strength but I don’t know what to do I want to restart as in start from when I got it. Well, my mom gets angry out of nowhere and over little things. And, she gets like really angry. Like this one time, I was in my room reading and my mom screams at me from downstairs to come throw away my garbage on the kitchen table. She was saying (yelling actually) how I always go around deliberately making a mess in the house for her and started ranting on and on about how I treat her like “dirt” and stuff. When I got down there literally all that was on the table was a crumpled up post-it note and a gogurt wrapper. I cleaned that up and started cleaning and doing all the other chores she was ordering me to do. Then when I finally got tired of being bossed around and yelled at (and being falsely called a liar and a brat among other things) I said (I thought she wouldn’t hear me) “Just shut up, you’re not so fun to live with either.” I got a hard slap in the face and a shove onto the floor for that one. Anyway, that little story was just to show how little things get my mom really angry out of nowhere. Also my mom will get all upset out of nowhere too. My brother and I were joking around once and called her fat (which she isn’t) and she started going on about she’s really ugly and everybody’s so mean to her and that my brother and I are never nice to her anymore especially me (which is totally untrue) and she was almost crying. Usually, she just gets angy though. And when she gets angry she really gets angry. Although she claims to controll herself, she usually hurts my brother and I or breaks stuff when she gets angry. Like this one time, I hadn’t cleaned my room like he told me to so she got all mad and wanted to take my laptop from me (which I bought with my own money by the way). I hid it because I know that when she gets mad she doesn’t care what she destroys until afterwards. Then she got even madder, and started tearing apart my room “Where is it?! You hid it! Where did you put it?! Tell me!!! I’ll hit you!”, “I don’t know, I don’t know! Stop, please!” “Little lying brat! I’ll give you something to cry about!” Then she takes off her shoe and hits me with it, throws a drawer at me, and pulls me around by my hair. I still didn’t tell her because I am just stubborn like that. Ok, I think I’m getting besides the point now. Anyway, from that information do you think that she has bipolar disorder or something? Oh, and my mom has been like this as long as I’ve know her so It’s not like she “disciplines” my brother and I for being “unruly” teenagers (I’m 14, my brother’s 16) or anything.

So I have an HP mini laptop with Windows XP on it. I have had it for a little over a year now. Earlier today all of these popups started telling me my system had been hijacked and tried to get me to download something. I didn’t of course. However I tried to restart the thing and now it won’t go past the screen that will either let me start it in safe mode or regular mode. I choose one and it immediately loops around goes back to the screen. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok I have a laptop from hell. It has given me nothing but problems. My warranty is going to end in may and all I need is one more hard drive problem and I will get a new laptop for free! Plus, my warranty covers “accidents”. Any good ways to make it seem like I wasn’t trying to destroy it?

Yesterday, I installed Command and Conquer Generals for the first time on a laptop running Windows Vista. Once the game was installed, I chose the update option from the main menu, and downloaded the available update. The update would not install correctly, and every time I tried to start the game, all it would do is try to reapply the failing patch. So I went out on the net, found another copy of the patch and tried again. This time, the patch successfully installed; but now, every time I try to start the game, it runs the patch over again and displays the notepad doc that explains what all the patch fixes and adds. In fact, whenever I select anything at all on my desktop, or try to run anything, the patch tries to run again and the notepad doc pops up. The game won’t start and I can’t do anything without this stupid patch running amok. Any ideas how I can stop this patch from trying to install continuously? I tried looking for it, but can’t find it on my machine. I also completely uninstalled C&C Generals and reinstalled, but no dice. The same thing keeps happening.
